From hiking in the mountains to take a swim in the black sea. The travel plan cover it. Your travel options are public transportation, driving with a scooter or the most comfortable, to hire a private driver. The itinerary starts and ends in the capital Tbilisi. georgia country 14 days itinerary

Tbilisi

First stop at your holiday plan will be Tbilisi. If you are not tiered after a your flight you can directly start to explore the capital. Walk around Old Town, get your first georgian dish and visit some of the major sightseeing spots, like the Freedom Bridge, or the Trinity Church. Get familiar with the culture and get ready for the the upcoming days!

javri monastery mtskheta georgia

Tbilisi / Mtskheta

On your second day you can choose to spend the whole day in Tbilisi or add an half-day trip to  Mtskheta, one of the oldest cities in Georgia.  It’s just a 30 min drive from Tbilisi city center and worth a visit. I can highly recommend going there with a scooter or private car that you are independent to visit the Mtskheta monasteries around. Especially from the famous Jvari Monastery you have a great view of the river and the town.

kazbegi trinity church

Kazbegi

Kazbegi shouldn’t be missed on any georgian travel itinerary. It’s easy to go there from Tbilisi, even with public transportation and one of the most popular destinations. It’s located in the Stepantsminda region, in the middle of the beautiful Caucasus mountains. If you still have power you can hike up to the Georgia landmark, the Gergeti Trinity church.

Hote Migu Yard outdoor

Kazbegi

Enjoy your second day in the mountains. Kazbegi offers a lot of activities, besides hiking. For example you can go horse riding, paragliding or discovering the Gveleti waterfall. Good hiking option is to go to Truso Valley. At the end of the day you can relax in one of the hotels in Kazbegi.

borjomi georgia

Gori / Borjomi

Leaving the georgian Caucasus the next stop will be Borjomi, the home of georgian mineral water. But before getting there you should take a stop in Gori to visit Uplistsikhe. It’s an ancient and very cool looking cave complexe, about 10 km from Gori.

In Borjomi there are a couple of places and things to do like riding the cable car. But it is also a good place to rest and do some wellness.

vardzia georgia country

Akhaltsikhe / Vardzia / Kutaisi

About 60 min from Borjomi with a car the next place on your travel itinerary is Akhaltsikhe. To be honest, there is just one reason to go to Akhaltsikhe and that is the Rabati Castle. But it is definitely worth it not to skip. It’s a big and well maintained fortress with great panorama. In the afternoon on your way to Kutaisi you can stop at Vardzia, another cave monastery. It’s also very impressive. If you run out of time you can directly drive to Kutaisi where you spend the night in a Kutaisi hotel.

tbilisi to kutaisi

Kutaisi

Some people say Kutaisi is not worth going. If you don’t start or end your georgia itinerary here you can skip it if you want, especially if you are just on a 7 day or 10 day trip. If you are in Georgia for 2 weeks you can easily stay a day here. There are some nice things to see and it’s a good location to start the second week’s travel route

Zugdidi

We are going north again. Zugdidi is the biggest city and capital of Western Georgia’s Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region. Some go there on their way to the mountain, but even if you don’t go to the mountains afterward you should spend a day there. Besides the Dadiani Palace, there are not a lot more attractions. But it is a town with charme.

tbilisi to batumi transportation

Batumi

Batumi is a very modern, big and most popular city at Black Sea coast. It’s a good stop if you want to spend some days at the water, even when you won’t find sandy beaches here. It’s also the number one destination for locals, who come here to spend their holiday. But there is more to do in Batumi than just lay at the beach. You should plan to stay 2 nights here to explore the city.

Batumi

Time to do some city sightseeing, walk the Batumi promenade or do some fun stuff. Especially for kids the city has a lot to offer like the Batumi dolphinarium.

tbilisi old town

Tbilisi

Time to go back to the east, back to Tbilisi. It’s with 6 hours per car and 5 hours with the train it is one of your longest travel days, which takes almost the whole country. After arriving in the capital again, finish the day e.g. in a Khinkali restaurant or a Tbilisi craft beer bar and relax after the long ride.

Sighnaghi

Georgia is one of the oldest wine regions and you shouldn’t miss visiting a winery to learn about georgian wine and of course to drink some of it. A good choice to do this  is in Sighnaghi. It’s one of smallest towns in Georgia and in the heart of the Kakheti region.

Sighnaghi

If you don’t have a hangover from your first day night, take a tour around. Walk the charming streets, visit the local market and have a break in a restaurant to try some more delicious georgian food. In the afternoon it’s time to leave back to Tbilisi as your final destination on your trip.

Tbilisi

It ends where it started. Take your last chance to visit some more places in the city. Visit a georgian museum or take a ride with the cable car. There is much left to do.
