10 Days Classic Itinerary

georgia 10 days itinerary

Tbilisi

The capital is a great place to start your journey. By walking through the streets and eating your first georgian food you get a first impression of the country and the people. There are a lot of things to do for free in Tbilisi which are perfect for your first day in the country.

david gareja day trip tbilisi

Tbilisi / David Gareja

Depending on your arrival time on the first day you can use your second day for staying in Tbilisi the whole day or add a half day tour to David Gareja.  It’s monastery complex and located in the stone desert east of Tbilisi.

georgian wine

Sighnaghi

When you think of Georgia you will also think about georgian wine. The country is famous for its wine production. Enough reason to spend one day in wine region Kakheti. It’s an essential part of a good caucasus itinerary. Sighnaghi is about a 2 hours drive from Tbilisi and one of two cities besides Telavi which is recommendable to stay in this area. Visit a winery and explore the small village.

borjomi georgia

Borjomi

Borjomi is famous for the mineral water springs and is surrounded by the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park. That makes it a perfect place to make a short stop to relax and see the “hometown” of the popular georgian water “Borjomi.”

Things to do in Borjomi? Walk around the Central park including drinking some mineral water directly from the source and take a cable car ride.

vardzia georgia country

Akhaltsikhe / Vardzia

There are two reasons to travel to Akhaltsikhe. First is to visit Rabati Castle and the second one is to make a stopover at Vardzia cave town. Both are really worth it to add it to your itinerary.

tbilisi to kutaisi

Kutaisi

Some people say Kutaisi is not worth a visit. Save your valuable time for better cities. I can understand that opinion. The city itself is not a must do but still has a few nice things to discover. But there is one thing why you should go there anyway: The Okatse Canyon. It’s about one 1 hour drive from Kutaisi and perfect for a half-day or day trip for adventurers.

javri monastery mtskheta georgia

Mtskheta / (Tbilisi)

On your way back to Tbilisi you will pass Mtskheta where you stop for a half day trip.

It’s a small village just 20 km from Tbilisi famous for its many monasteries. The highlights are the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Old Town and the Jvari Monastery from where you have an amazing view over the river and the town. You can stay overnight or go back to Tbilisi for the night.

kazbegi trinity church

Kazbegi

You wouldn’t have been to Georgia if you did not spend at least one day in the famous caucasus mountains. From Tbilisi (or Mtskheta) you drive up the military highway and stop almost before the russian border in Kazbegi. Visit the famous Trinity Church.

Kazbegi

On your second day go on a hike to Truso Valley and enjoy the caucasus mountains. It is also good for beginners.

Time to say goodbye to Kazbegi and to Georgia itself. It’s your last day on your 10 days itinerary and you have to go back to Tbilisi to get your flight back home. When you leave in the evening you have another day to explore some more places in the capital, like a georgian museum

10 Days Winter Itinerary 🏂

Georgia is not just a summer destination. If you love snow, skiing and other winter activities you should visit the country during the winter. Stay a couple of days in the mountains and explore the most popular cities with less tourists. This is our Georgia winter itinerary recommendation.

Arrival in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi. It’s a whole new experience walking around in the city when it’s cold and covered with snow. Use your first day to do some indoor and outdoor activities.

Before you start your trip to the mountains make a stop at Mtskheta. It’s one of the oldest cities in Georgia and a must go place on your Georgia itinerary. Don’t miss to go up to Jvari monastery to have a look over the city, the river and the mountains.

Gudauri

Gudauri is the most popular and biggest ski resort in Georgia. If you like skiing or snowboarding it’s time to spend a few days here. Also some other acitvities like paragliding are available.

Gudauri / Kazbegi

If you still have power add another ski day in Gudauri. But a good alternative is to do a day trip to Kazbegi to visit the famous Trinity Church.

Borjomi

Let’s leave the mountains and go to Borjomi. It’s famous for the mineral water and a good stopover before the next ski destination.

Bakuriani

A winter highlight in Georgia is to take the Kukushka train from Borjomi to Bakuriani. It passes the amazing forest and mountains. (Read more about Kukusha Train here).

Bakuriani

Have another day in the snow. Bakuriani is the cheaper ski resort and a bit more family-friendly than Gudauri.

Classic 10 Day Itinerary

georgia 10 days itinerary

This is a itinerary recommendation for people who want to move fast and see a lot of things and places during their 10 days visit. Tbilisi will be your first and last stop on your Georgia itinerary. If your plane lands in Kutaisi or Batumi (another cities with an international airport) you can modify the travel plan to start and end there. After the landing and for your whole trip you have three transportation options: public transportation (slow), a scooter / motorbike (fast) and a private car with driver (fast).
