Exploring through Tbilisi does not always need you to spend a lot of money. Here are so many things which are for free and are so much fun. Tbilisi is a beautiful city blended with so many memories which can be found in old Tbilisi which has a lot of narrow streets, surrounded by so many mountains, beautiful lights and fascinating structures. Listed below are 11 cool things to do in Tbilisi for free.

1. TBILISI SEA

The interesting thing about this specific sea is that it is artificial, and also serves as a reservoir. Tbilisi Sea, being on the outskirts of town is a peaceful space to stay away from the noise of the city. There are a lot of people here in the summer anyway, but it’s a pretty cool place to check out. You can come here to hang out with friends, swim, go fishing and take beautiful pictures as well. Games like basketball are played here too, mostly in the evening.

To get there you have different options. You can drive there by scooter or car, or you can use the subway, and stop at Guramishvili station, there are a good number of buses coming to this area directly. You can come in at any time, there’s no limit.

2. LISTEN TO THE LIVE MUSIC ON THE STREET

If you are a lover of local live music, then this is really for you. There are lots of street artists on the road that play really good music. Some tourists enjoy standing to watch them sing. The best place to find these people is in front of the Liberty Square Metro, they are always there, mostly in the evenings. They ask that you give them money at times, but it is not compulsory at all, as you can still listen to the music for free and have a good time.

3. HOLY TRINITY CATHEDRAL (also known as SAMEBA by the locals)

This is the biggest cathedral in Tbilisi and has a lot of Historian facts attached to it. This building is very big and beautiful. It is much better to visit here in the evening, to watch the lights of the building come on. It has a massive space of land, with so many cool shades to relax; it is a great place of escape. There are so many tourists here during the summer. I love here so much for the peace and calm, and so many beautiful places to take amazing pictures. Entrance to the Cathedral is totally free. It is located in a place called Avlabari in Tbilisi, you can walk to the Cathedral from the Avlabari metro station or take a taxi straight to the Cathedral.

4. JOIN A FREE WALKING TOUR

There are a lot of free walking tours in Tbilisi; they usually start from Liberty square, in the heart of the city to begin the journey. It’s best to join the evening group, when the weather is not so hot. Going with the group allows you see so many places in Tbilisi you would not see while taking the bus or the taxi. You get to navigate through the Old Tbilisi and the modern sides.

5. DRY BRIDGE FLEA MARKET

These markets are mostly open all year round, located at Baratashvili. It is a good place to check out while window shopping. The crafts market is beautiful with so many astonishing hand-made goods and vintage products. It is best to visit here during the summer or autumn, mostly on Sundays, where there are the majority of the sellers. They open in the morning and close by evening, between 10am to 5pm. 

To navigate to this area, depending on what part of the city you are in, take the subway to Liberty Square and take a bus that goes to Baratashvili, close to the Justice House, you can ask the locals around for directions, or use Google Maps.

6. MTASMINDA PARK

This is located on top of the Mtasminda Mountain. The view from the top of the Mtsaminda Mountain is very beautiful, as you get to see most parts of Tbilisi. The mountain is said to be a place of rest for some of the local celebrities, as they come to relax here. There is the park here, where you can also unwind, and look around.  

It’s best to navigate this area with a taxi, as there is only one bus in the city that goes directly to this place. To get the bus, take a subway to Rustaveli Metro, on the side of the metro, at the bus stop, take the bus no.124, this comes directly to the park.

7. TURTLE LAKE

This place is absolutely beautiful, located in one of the beautiful areas of Tbilisi called Vake. It has a wide span of land and is very peaceful. It got its name because of the turtles that used to live there. The crowd is not always much in this area. You can come here to have a picnic, and there is also the lake where you can swim. You can navigate here best using a cable car from Vake park, a scooter or taxi.

8. EAST POINT MALL

This is one of the biggest malls in the city of Tbilisi. I love it so much as it is different from other malls because it has a wider span of land and it is an open mall, so the buildings are scattered all over, and not just in one building like the rest of the mall. East point is a pretty good place to come around, you could hang around in the fountain area and take a chill, go window shopping, as most of the stores are found in this mall. The biggest grocery store in Tbilisi (Carrefour) is also located in this mall. East point is very close to the airport, you will literally see it while leaving the airport.

To navigate your way around here, you will need to use a taxi, or better still use the small buses popularly known as “Mashutka”, they have different ones that come here, just ask around, depending on your location for which of them is coming to East Point.

9. WALK THROUGH THE GLASS BRIDGE IN THE NIGHT

This is also known as The Bridge of Peace it connects from Old Town and Rike Park. It can be scary if you are afraid of heights, but it is a pretty cool place to check out while you are in the city. It is more fun to go in the night, when the lights are glowing.

10. FREE WINE TASTING

Georgia is popularly known for their wine production. One of the good things they do is to let you taste the wines for free; you can check this out in as many stores as you can, just for fun.

11. MOUNTAIN CLIMBING

As Tbilisi is surrounded with a lot of mountains, so if you love climbing mountains, then this is definitely for you. The mountains are located mostly at Old Tbilisi, and best to navigate them in the evening, when the hot summer sun has gone down.
